[Q] Best ROM/Kernel for Ray? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi friends. My girlfriend recently purchased a Ray. We have rooted the phone and now are ready to install a custom ROM. I wanted a review of ROMs from you guys which you have used on your Ray. (Camera, battery life, smoothness, stability etc.)
You can help me by letting me know about the following ROMs
- CyanogenMod 7.2 RC1
- KA11 Ice Cream Sony
- FreeXperiaProject 7.2
- FreeXperiaProject 9.0
- JJ's HYBRID ROM v3
- RayOnium
Or you could just tell me the best ROM for Ray.

Try it yourself, and please don't post this kind of question again.

Well I thought xda was meant to share your knowledge and help others!

I have tried CM7.2, CM9.0 and Offical ICS BETA ROM V4 Update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516750
ICS BETA is the best so far. CM7.2 and CM9.0 is too buggy for me yet. (IMHO)

Yes but not this kind of question. Clearly you post it at the wrong thread. Why don't you put it on the sticked thread above? And again, none is the Best. It comes down to each person's experiences, and it is not kindly enough to compare something that's been done for passion, with silly ranks. If all ROMs are paid version, you could ask such a question. But it is free so it is ethically not allowed to compare them all, it just makes some war (as i have seen it before on X10MP forum). Try yourself and read all the testimonial. Read before ask will never hurt.

there is nothing bad in asking for help.. Newbies really dont know where to go...
Its just a Kernel or ROM the guy is asking...There wont be anything too sensitive or emotional for Dev if someone helps him choosing a ROM...
@OP... Every ROM has its own features... Depends on users choice or features he/she wants... it just takes 15 mins to check a ROM and its features... try each one by one and stay with the one that suits u more...

Well at least they can read, can't they? Just keeping this thread clean and tidy and minimal of confrontation. I know it is maybe harmless, but i won't bet on it since i have seen it growing to some hatred to the devs later.

Not hating the ROM mind you, just the theme.. And you know me all along since the first mod i popped here, that i kept the theme as stock as possible (at least in rhythm with stock theme), and later you mod the theme for any other. So you knew how much i love sony theme (or too lazy to do a theme of m own) ..
Yes it is just a phone and how nice it is if everybody has the same mind like yours. The thing is, majority of human is human, they like to idolize something and when different peoples with different mind comes together, war..
Ah forget it, getting off topic now.. X)

Well, all I can say is your not yet ready to install custom rom. Unlike any other brand of phones, Sony has a locker bootloader. You have to unlock boatloader first which will void the warranty to install custom ROM.
I'll give you a tip in choosing rom.
1. Go to each rom's thread, read the rom's description first, see if the phone features that are essential for your everyday usage is working as we all now that each has their own pros and cons.
2. Feedbacks, just read feedbacks. It will give you the idea if the Rom is for or not.
3. Number of post, check the number of post. More post may actually mean that many people are using that rom.
Go find it yourself. It's not easy to give comparison as it may hurt the developer's feelings reading some bad comments about their hardworks.

In real i like this topic ... i was reading many things around any Rom ... same with kernels and that's good, what we all together can speak about them all in one place. Coz if u can see, each time when any Rom will be updated, makers did new Topic about it, well why we can't talk about things like that, like new Rom's in one place? For many Dev's it will be nice place too, coz they can see what ppl's like, what they want, for what they downloaded for example MIUI and not Cyan.
Iam interested in this topic, coz iam trying to find balanced Rom, just needed app's in it, everything is working and smooth ... and thats my question of the day, what Rom and kernel(also baseband) draining battery not so fast?
For example on same Rom what i have now iam tried different options in build.prop
pm.sleep_mode=2
ro.ril.disable.collapse=0
but made one mistake in same day iam changed baseband ... and if before my Rom take for whole night 2% of my battery ... after this moves i got 3%.
Today iam trying new baseband and we will see what i can have then.
Well its good to know about them all, i mean Rom's .. and iam tried many of them, last JJ's rom, MIUI from iriijo and bla bla bla. And all what i can say, they all bugged, GB more stable for now and everything is working nice with repack from 4pda .. for nice view i use Go laucher Ex, its overclocked and bla bla bla. I like it, but i love Torch from MIUI with home button and many small things like that in any other Rom.
Well this topic must live, i hope soon we can read here more info and maybe someone can offer to me, how to make my battery life better, coz my phone can stay without charging just 1 day ^^ and one guy at the 4pda forum got 3 days and 14 hours, used 2g(but it was on), not 3g ... used internet, listened music, used wifi also ... i think even 2 days like that should be perfect, but why i can't do the same ?^^
Sorry if my english isn't perfect enough and sorry for to much words in this answer ^^

Rayonium is the best rom for me.

[Q] Stock Rom Tweaked? [Is it in demand] ETA: Tomorrow

Hello all Neo users
I have received my Neo and have the bootloader unlocked, I am wondering if anyone here would like a stock Tweaked Rom? Similar to the Wolfbreak one on x10
Let me know, because if there is then I will get started soon enough
I have no experience in developing but I am keen and have all necessary programs, cygwin, Ubuntu kitchen etc...
Best Regards
Thats good news.
Im first tester
Thanks buddy
Bit gutted with over 90 views and 1 comment
It won't look any different than the stock rom, but there will be some themes available from myself and maybe some Neo users if they want
I will start on it tomorrow afternoon, (little busy at work till then)
I'll let you know the progress
Regards
Thanks
I would also be interested in this rom. Quick question would I need to unlock my boot loader to install it? Thanks

And yes you would
Unless someone made a working recovery like xRecovery on x10... but I highly doubt that,
You can relock bootloader at any time anyway, there are tutorials and a video

I would be very interested in a striped down ROM with all the SE crap removed.

Very good idea
I am interesting also for the ROM something different. Good luck with your work.
Idea of a stock tweaked ROM is very good. I think, stock firmware are good, stick firmware with twicks better
If you know, the most popular ROM for Acer Liquid is t&l - lgcmn and trahelman had same idea and made the best ROM.
id welcome some tweaks as well (at least until we have a fully working cyanogenmod).
what i can think of:
- percent based battery indicator on status bar
- buttons to turn features (wifi, gps, etc) on/off on the status screen
thank you for the idea
I'm up for some of this too if the OP does do it.
I'm a bit jumpy about being a tester with rom's, but if its bug free and its clean and fast then its fine with me.
chill...............
awesome i loved the wolfbreak rom! and we have cmw recovery with DoomLords kernel. i would do this right away

Right guys just let you know I'm just having a feel about with some Tweaks myself before anything gets released for testing...
Thinned out a lot of apps too
For now there is no ETA
when there is a ETA I will call mods to close this thread and I will start a new one in Development section
Best Regards
Good luck for your work, will surely give it a try on my Neo!
Will be willing to test on my neo when you have something in development.
sounds great - one thing I think would be interseting is if the email program could be upgraded to one like on the samsung SII which lets you chose when peak/off-peak times to sync (so you dont get pinged at 3.30am!) - also 2.3.3 is a big flaky as a base ROM in terms of data sync - I have to re-boot daily at the moment..
there is one more thing i would welcome in a custom rom: currently it is not possible to set a different locale and language. i use all my devices in english language, but that also means i cant get date, time and other settings according to my locale (slovakia)
Hey guys I have Arc coming this week sometime so this will be supported for both therefore it will take longer :/
Neo will be first though
Not much time today to experiment Sunday should be a good day though

[Q] What is the best Custom ROM for Xperia X10 Mini pro

dear all what is the best X10 mini pro in the market where all the features working ?? please advice... thanks
Each rom has its strenghts and weakness. You should try each one and see wich suits you best.
I've tried Paul's ROM's, they're pretty good. Sonystyle and MiniCM7.
Now I'm using slade's GinTonic and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
I will also give Eyama's roms a try (GingerDX annd Flame.E).
Go ahead and test them, I'm pretty sure one will suit your needs.
I hope someday they could all work togheter and make something like "xda oficial rom".
Hi
sorry but I got one question:
Why is everybody askin what the best rom may be?
These roms all got there features (read them in the related threads)
and they all got there advantages and minor bugs.
Everybody has his own meaning about those,
so please go out there and get your own
experience
If you are really interested you should
invest some time to get a feeling for your device and roms.
Peace
And if you really wanna know,
just open on of the thousand other threads sayin "What is the best rom"

I Agree with you, man. But sometimes its hard to know where to begin. I didnt want to install a lot of roms and every time have to install all softwares and reconfigure my phone. Its like formating you computer every week. :/
I just came into this post cos I was waiting somebody had answered his answer. Cos the ROM i installed on my mini pro is not good and wifi is not working properly, now i am trying another rom that seem to be better, but its still beta, it means that ill have some problems (hopefully not) and ill have to at least install the final version.

Are you tryin Flame.E beta ?
If you read the bug section and the features
of the roms you're thinkin they fit with you/your phone
you'll see that there are for now with Gingerbread not that
many bugs and there not as many reboots as before
And installing a new rom isn't that hard
if you workin with your recovery backup
So just read the latest posts in the dev section about the roms
and it'll be fine
Peace
I tried GingerDX, Flame.E (by Eyama), SonyStyle and MiniCM7 Pro ( by Paul). All is great but the best for me is MiniCM7 Pro.

well guys, i asked this question for the same reason diegodacal said!
i wanna get rid of the stock ROM which is too slow and limited! i tried all the ROMs inside XDA related to X10 mini pro the issue is none of those ROMs is complete enough to continue with it. why developers in the X10 MINI Pro section don't combine their work and get one strong and bug free ROM version!
let's take as example of community work LINUX itself! the whole world Community is building Linux and now Linux is one of the most advanced and powerful OS!
i wish i can contribute with all other developers in XDA together united to build a super ROM for each device running Android.
for the moment, the best ROM that i tested it and found it somewhat suitable to my need but not fully functional is the GinTonic SE of Slade87.
To combine all the developer work
would be awesome, but this is left to the developers

well man i'm all the time with the Open Source Programming as i'm also a Software Engineer and i know the benefit of Open Source. To have a strong open source software you need to combine efforts.
i wish the other developers here read this too. combining efforts i mean we all discuss what kernel and baseband we take for development and then start to develop our unified Roms all together around those requirements.
well do you think that MiniCM7 Pro is good enough to try it??
If you won't try, you don't know it ;-)

[MINIPRO] Looking for: Light and Stable ROM/Kernel

Hi,
I'm really sorry for starting a topic like this, but this forum/subsection is really so cluttered...
I'm just looking for a stable, light, snappy ROM. A ROM which has proven it's worth. As little bugs as possible, no experimental features!
And also a kernel which fits best.
I would like like all hardware functions of my phone to keep working though:
Camera/Video, hardware keyboard/lights, vibrate, tactile feedback, etc...
Grtz!
No probs brov........

You will get a bunch of different answers as each rom runs differently depending on set up and apps. To be honest looking for a rom in a development forum and you will always find things to be experimental. XDA is not about finding stable bug free roms. It is about learning and development.

I don't entirely agree. My previous phone was a HTC Desire, there were a lot of experimental ROMs, but also a lot of stable running ROMs.
I agree that most ROMs will always be a little experimental. But there's experimental and experimental ... If you know what I mean
What I'm trying to say is, I would like to have a ROM which is made by someone who really knows what he's doing and not just some barely tested ROM which will crash every 5 seconds
As for me, i havent try another ROM on my phone cos most has Bug.... have been using NeroDroid ROM since i bought my phone & i havent for once regret dat!!! i keep praying for tha Developer every blessed day for making a wonderful ROM!

I understand that but really this is development forum for developers to try out things that may cause issues or even brick a device if you don't understand exactly what your doing. This always has been and always will be the case. Just be happy that the devs even offer fixes unlike a few years ago when it was up to the users to dug in and fix issues they come across. Flashing custom roms should never be taken with a grain of salt or done cause people think it is cool or fun. We all should be hear to learn. If your not learning something when flashing then it really is a waste if time.

I have some knowledge about the proces of flashing roms/customizing phones. I just had more for my previous phone. Everything is a little new for the minipro.
That's also the reason I'm looking for a lite ROM, less potential problems to encounter
if u want really a light rom u could try pro-x rom, it is not posted here in xda, but if u type it on google u could find it on that guy website
nice, will check that one out also
In my opinion if you want a light & stable ROM you should stick with stock ROM. Thats what I have done. I just removed all the bloatware and unnecessary crap that I will never use, it has the best battery life and you don't really have to worry about it crashing. Also, I used Rage Kernel as it provides amazing battery life. To make my life easier I installed extra MODs that are essential. Just look at my signature for all the stuff I have installed.

You're right, but I would like to go one step further, I would also (maybe) like to get rid of the Sony apps. Like the Sony launcher, text-app, ... and start using the android default apps.
Is this also possible to remove those system apps from the stock rom?

Yeah, if you are rooted you can do anything you want! That's what I have done, I removed most Sony stock apps and replaced them with the 1s CyanogenMod supplies (which is stock). Some apps I kept the same due to they look nicer!

The ones, that are CyanogenMod.
The apps from CyanogenMod ROMs
And indeed, ICS ROMs are not fully stable yet, still have some bugs there and there.

Thanks for the lead. The PRO-X [ROM] is working great in my Mini Pro (SK17i)
BTW, it is now posted on this forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639720
I tried three different ROMs in the last one week before settling on this one.
Cyanogenmod 7.1.02 - Didn't work, faced the boot loop problem.
MIUIv4 2.4.6 - Nice UI, but phone felt sluggish and video play was jerky.
4.0.2.A.0.69 Generic (PreRooted) with 66 Baseband - Camera flash was not working.
But finally, PRO-X gives me everything I want - a light, snappy rom with fully functional hardware and no bugs (so far). Had it for two days now.
==> Rage Kernel v2.8 + Baseband 64 + PRO-X v2.2 ROM
Cheers.

Well, based on my own knowledge..
The main pros of all custom roms is that you push your device tru its limits
You make your device more powerful than stock
While the main cons is that you will lost your warranty which is only valid for only a year i think

dude..every roms have some advantage or disadvantage.and there are like hundreds of rom availlable for neo/v.so u can not get info about pro cons about each rom.these are the reasons that your qstn will not get a proper ans.
-differnt people has different choce for rom..some like blueis icon or stock experience like AOSP,CYNOGENMOD,PACROM while others like roms that are based on stock sony firmwares.
-some prefer light roms that runs faster..like JJ Hybrid rom..but some like heavy roms which have all social and whether widgets so its up to you what you like more.
-choice of rom also veries for every version of rom..some version may be stable..but it will not have latest features..on the other side the rom with latest features may not necessarily be stable.
bottom line:
USE THE SEARCH BUTTON.READ EVERY ROM THREADS THAT YOU LIKE AND THEN DECIDE YOURSELF THAT WHICH ROM SUITS YOU BEST.
here you can find full list of roms kernel etc..available for neo/v

Nothing more can be answered in a more fitting way!
Good job Deepak!
And @OP
Looking at the magnitude of Rom and kernels for our beloved device,
None can give you a detailed pro and con list for every specific Rom...
You'll have to invest your time and effort! Well, not a single Rom is worse when compared to the stock!
Everyone has delivered well with their bit of ideas by presenting their Roms!
I hope you get my point and would take it +vely

Starting jan 3 i will be back in school and i don't have the luxury of time (i am taking up a medicine). please do understand Guys. Thanks

Tell you the truth I don't find much difference in stock roms. Probably just a few tweaks here and there. And since you probably aren't going to update your rom often, ANY stock based rom should be fine. There are plenty out there, just choose the one that looks best for you.
As for the kernels, you don't have much choice actually. It's either alliance or suave. I personally prefer alliance due to the somewhat better performance.

This is like a best ROM thread which is not useful. The pro's for one person may be a con for another and vice versa, it's like one mans rubbish is another mans riches. Best thing to do which is why these forums exist, is for you to look at the ROM's available and then experiment for yourself by trying them, you lose nothing and gain experience so win win.
Thanks

[Q] Not that noob question, more information about kernels and roms

Hi everyone, my questions here may seem strange or noobish, but I'll ask them anyways,
I follow these forums (XDA), since a good time now, (since I have my Xperia X1, got it nov 2008 to be exact, but I discovered XDA a little while later), and I read lots and lots of threads and posts everyday, I was there when CWM was born, I flashed tons of ROMs on my X1, WM6.1, WM6.5, Android since 2.1 I think, I had stopped all this for some times when I had much work to do for school and work etc. and I came back 3months ago with XPERIA P...
I followed and read almost every thread in here, and I'm sorry to announce that I find all this a bit Messy (not Lionel)...
I want the best Experience for my smartphone, and here I'll explain what's the "best" experience for me, and I wish you could tell me what's the best thing to do for it.
1) I love Xperia Stock UI, that's why I want stock XPERIAnce
2) I love smoothness, thats why I want a light ROM and good Kernel =)
3) I know that .54 FW is insanly buggy, so I'll certainly need some tweaks
so now that you've read my little story, I think I have all your attention so I can ask my questions, that's why I'll type them below:
1) What's the best ROM for me?
- I think about getting this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069543) I want to know what you think about it, seems really good to me, but don't want to waste time flashing and reflashing, I used to do it with my old phone so now I just want to flash once and stay with My phone like it is all the time
2) What's the point of getting another than stock Kernel?
- I mean here that okay it can be smoother and have better battery or benchmarks, but tbh I don't really care of that all unless there's a big difference, so is it a real difference between stock kernel and Sliding or Thjap?
Yeah I know my question seem noobish and may have been asked many times, but I'm searching for someone who can make my wishes come true, or at least show me the way to do it by myself, because actually I learn computer science but all this is not what we learn at school, so I don't knwo where to start...
Now For all of you that didn't fall asleep while reading my story (could write a book lol it's so long) hit the thanks button (just to know if you reached the end of my post LOL, joke no need to do it)
Seriously for every person that reaches the end of my post, just feell free to help or teach me how to make my own ROMs, because yea there are tutorials and stuff, but it's always better to have someone showing you the first steps, it helps you keep focusing on it and not being bored,
I thank every guy here that can help me or just took the time to read my looong long post =)

1.) Only you can tell what's the best ROM for your phone. But for my Xperia P, I use BrainsROM. It has all the features I need for my smartphone. Battery does not drain that fast and overall performance is good.
2.) Hmmm. I am not that pro yet when it comes to kernels, but as I can see, there is a big difference using kernels from Sliding and Thjap from stock. You can see big improvements when it comes to overall performance. Most people use Stock ROM's combined with Modded Kernels.
Sorry for my bad english, english isn't my first language. :good: Hit the thanks button if my post helped you.
Your question regarding kernel
The kernels provided by thjap and deepunknown are more than just another stock kernel
pre rooted
Cwm integrated
Init.d support
Ooverclocked ( removed from deepunknown's kernel)
Some performance n battery tweaks
And a hell lot of new things
So Are there any cons over custom roms and kernels, like freeezes or reboots or phones stuck? Did you ever experience that ?

I have never experienced any reboots or freeZes on all custom roms that I have tried ( talking about those for unlocked bootloaders)
Most of the roms dun have any lag like our beloved stock rom
Regarding kernels - if its a test release... U cannot expect it to b highly stable...
Bt final releases are stable ( coz they r thoroughly tested by some testers including me
all credits to developers
Some have made it to 6 stable releases in xperia p section )
And you tell me that custom stable kernel is smoother and has better battery life than stock ? How come Sony engineers didn't make it better so ?

Yes it is bt I didnt said anything about battery yet
When I used miui it was superb
Bt battery life was not as much as I expected ( less than stock rom)
Sony engineers - no words for them
Coz they can port jb to xj bt not to xu and xsola... Thats pathetic engineering
