[Q] htc sync manager sync history location? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

So I decided to root my new HTC ONE because there are a couple of querks I wanted to iron out myself through sideloading some stuff.
However, when I unlocked my phone through bootloader, it wiped my entire phone contents. I pretty much expected this but was still a little annoyed. So my next step was to go into HTC Sync Manager and just restore my phone from a previous sync.
Well it appears that HTC Sync manager has no history of my previous syncs for some reason. This leaves me with a serious problem....
Now I'm looking through random files trying to find the most recent sync in order to recover all of the contents and settings that were previously on the phone but I don't know where to look or how to have HTC Sync Manager recognize it. This is my first android phone coming over from the iWagon so I am used to Backup, Jailbreak, Restore - in that order...
Does anybody know how to do this? Surely you don't have to start from scratch if you just want to root the damn thing.
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

HTC Hero trouble synchronizing with PC? Read this...

Hi Heroes
Did you ever have trouble syncing your Hero with your PC? No connection with HTC sync? Only usb connection and access to the SD card? Maybe you got no connection at all? HTC sync couldn't find the driver... Or you actually used to be able to sync, but you can't anymore?
Well, I know how annoying this can be There are a few things you might wanna try. They worked for me...
a) Get HTC sync and install the drivers.
Windows 7 users (like me) will get an additional challenge, but it is doable IF you read this this thread (entirely!)
Remember the HTC Hero sync tab in the notification area trick (mentioned by #19 Magnus in the above thread).
Also remember #7 Daniel Kruschinski comment on restarting the phone.
b) Now, why create my own topic if every answer can be found in this thread? Simple: I DON'T WANT TO RESTART MY PHONE EACH TIME I HAVE TO SYNC!
Question:
Sync works after phone restart (if drivers are installed properly), but stops working after a while... why?Answer:
Because the HTC sync app (called "PC synchronization" or similar) ON THE PHONE stopped working.Question:
Why did the application stop working?Answer:
Because a) it shut down on its own (bug or whatever), or because b) you killed it with a app like Advanced Task Killer (ATK) in order to try to free some memory because your phone was being sluggish...Question:
Why not simply restart that app by going to "Menu" - "Settings" - "Synchronization" - "Sync with PC", since this IS the app?Answer:
...because it doesn't work! You can restart the app after it died, and it will show on ATK, but the syncing WILL NOT work. Weird, but that's the way it is...Question:
So what do I do?Answer:
Don't kill it! Oh, and by the way, if you use ATK, unchecking HTC sync in the program WILL NOT BE GOOD ENOUGH!: ATK will still kill it (!).
You HAVE TO add it to the "Ignore List" in ATK in order to keep it running (long press on the app in the list, then choose "ignore"). Strange, but true... This only applies to HTC sync, as far as I can tell. Don't ask...
A few more things, while we're at it:
- If the events of the calendar OF THE PHONE don't transfer to your Outlook calendar or your Google calendar , read this thread to know why (jr2408 's post).
why, WHY did they do that? Why can't you merge the calendars? Why can't you change the event's calendars after having entered them? At least, the phone remembers your calendar event settings... Uff!
- Here are a few apps you might want to install. They are free, and they are really usefull:
Advanced Task Killer free:
Allows to free memory by shutting down unused background apps. Removes sluggishness - awesome! Remember to use the ignore list for apps like HTC sync and TouchFLO
Quick Uninstaller:
Makes uninstalling apps a one-click operation. Cool!
Y5 - Battery saver:
Fantastic! Turns off the phone's wifi when you're not close to your (or a chosen) Access point. Remembers location by GPS tracking and thus saves you A LOT of battery energy. Try it, really...
3G Watchdog:
Keeps you informed of your Data connection rate (on 3G network, not wifi) and warns you when you reach a certain value. Very useful for those who don't have free unlimited transfer...
aTrackDog:
Keeps your software updated, even if it doesn't come from Android Market.
ASTRO:
An explorer which lets you manage your files.
Barcode Scanner:
Obvious...
Shazam:
Recognizes songs by listening and finds info on the Web. Impressive!
Wifi Analyzer:
Helps you spot the most appropriate Access point if several are in the area...
Sky map:
Helps you identify stars in the sky. Powerful!
AND:
Robo Defense (addictive!); Mario Simulator (laughing guaranteed); OI Flashlight (a "where is the #@! keyhole"-killer); Metal detector (eat that, I-phone braggers!)
If you got cash, don't forget CoPilot for GPS navigation, which allows to DOWNLOAD entire maps and store them on your SD card.
Et voilà! Comments welcome, recommended apps, advices... You tell me!
Questions are welcome, but answers are even more. Share!
Very useful post
very nice thanks!!!!!
My Hero doesnt detect the HTC sync on my Vista. I have never been able to sync with PC. I dont want to sync with PC as sync everything with google. But I need to sync with HTC sync for ROM upgrade. I have tried everything. I tried disablling the antivirus and firewall, put the program on teh Firewall exception list but nothing happnes. says that phone cannot detect HTC sync on computer. I hav downloaded the latest HTC sync from the HTC site. Any suggestions?
Hi all,
This is a little hello from me to you all. Like you all I've had problems with HTC Sync, unable to connect my HTC Hero, which I've only had for three weeks, but it seemly like a long time due to the problems I've had with HTC Sync and time I spend getting it to work with Outlook...
Anyway, I've read a lot of information here and externally i.e. google.com searches. I'm glad to say I've managed to HTC Sync to work..
This is what I did....Oh! I have a Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit, I GUESS this might work with any other installation of Windows, but not sure about Windows 7. If this works, please post here so people have one place to go to find the answer.... cheers.... and good luck!
1) Downloaded Andriod SDK, this was to allow debug USB connection. You can find it here.. http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r05-windows.zip
2) Downloaded HTC sync version 2.0.33 (http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=3&dl_id=933)
3) As I use my Ipod to sync music, I found Apple also installed Mobile device software, I uninstalled this.
4) Reviewed all software that related to USB and mobile devices and there were a few.... including my trusty HTC Diamond..., UN-installed them all...
5) Rebooted my laptop.
6) Installed SDK to C:\ASDK, then set-up Environment Variable to point to ;C:\ASDK\android-sdk-windows\tools, this is thanks to someone who posted this information on the web...sorry I can't find the reference, but here is my Kudos to you!
I rebooted my laptop...
7) I then installaed HTC Sync, but prior to the install, I stopped Anti-virus software (AVG), disabled my firewall.
8) Did another reboot.
9) Once my laptop was up and running.. ensured my firewall was disabled and disabled AVG, connected my Hero (baby) noticed Windows installed the USB drivers
10) Once the installed was completed, HTC Sync, did not see the phone, now I was pretty pissed at this point, however I wasn't going to give...
11) Whilst my phone was still connected, I decided to power it off and left it off for about 20 seconds.
12) Powered my Hero back on... and then that was it.... Windows found the phone not just USB, HTC Sync, noticed the Hero was connected and started the installation of the drivers, this took a bit of time... do be cool and wait...
12) HTC Sycn, status, conected baby, yeah!....
I setup what I wanted to sych, Contacts, calendar etc. and clicked on sync on the PC....
And it was great seeing this happen....
I hope this bit of information help someONE or someTWO at least... I know how much time I spent on this and if I can help save someONE or TWO save sometime - WoW It make me feel goooood....
Please post if it helps or if it don't...
Cheers and good luck to all

I am trying to use your method... but I don't quite grasp the meaning of point 6 (sorry for being such a noob, but I am at point of tears as I bough the Hero a few days ago as my first smartphone and now everything that can go wrong during freeing it into better phone, is going just wrooong).
So were do I set this C:\ASDK\android-sdk-windows\tools at? my PC? My SD card? How exactly I do it?
Thanks people for all the post, really... just at the beginning is quite overwhelming
Agnes
Thanks for the post.
I have a question for you guys that it is bugging me... why do you need sync? i've never used it so i don't get its purpose.
Thanks!

To be honest I don't know, but apparently it's necessary for installing ROM (following the steps from THE guide). I want to make sure it's working so that I won't get stuck with this problem in the middle of ROMing...
but later today I found my software is not up to date, but for some reason my phone errors with the phone+red triangle screen on, so I cannot update, without it I cannot properly root (even though the Universal Androot says it's rooted), and can't do anything. I am stuck at the moment, and plan to visit some store that claims they can do it for me... I feel disappointed and angry.:crying:

[Q] Move apps back to phone before factory reset?

Hi,
This is going to be such a "noob" question & I apologize in advance.
I have an Orange UK branded HTC Desire HD running stock firmware & NOT rooted. Since the fairly recent 2.3.5 update with Sense 3.0 I have found that I am regularly seeing Sense restart upon exiting an app and returning to the home screen. This is not related to a particular app, as it can happen when returning to home from ANY app. My wife is seeing the same behaviour on hers too.
Having posted on both HTC's & Orange's Facebook pages, I have been advised in no uncertain terms that as a first step I should perform a factory reset.
This is something that I have not done since I got my DHD (my 1st Android - plenty of hard resets on WM ). I have had a bit of a tidy up - clearing unnecessary data, uninstalling apps I don't use, etc. Pretty much ready to reset (but aware that there is SOME data that I will lose). However, there is one thing that I am unsure about...
I have previously moved a number of apps to the SD card. If I leave them there, will the existing data be recognised upon reinstalling the apps? Or will it cause me problems? Or will the existing data just be orphaned? I.e. should I move all apps back to the phone before performing the reset?
Thanks in Advance
Saving them SD leaves a bit on your phone, so that wont help. Just back them up with your google account!
The apps and system data will be wiped regardless of it being on the sdcard or not. You can perform a manual backup by enabling debugging and using adb to pull the apps from your phone to your computer.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Ok, thanks RTContent. I think that answers my question. So I needn't worry about moving stuff back, which is good.
I have no experience of using ADB. Would this backup just the APKs? Or the settings & user data too?
AlwaysDroid: "Just back them up with your google account" - Not sure I get what you mean. Are you referring to the way Google Play will auto restore apps from your install list? TBH, I was banking on this working correctly. Hopefully it will only reinstall those that were on the device, and not ALL previously installed apps. Especially as some of those were from my tablet only.
Not sure that now is the time to start dabbling with ADB, so will probably just go ahead with the reset and lose non synced app data.
Thanks.

Making a template install

Hi,
I've finally set up my desire pretty well with all the best settings etc. I have a spare desire and at the moment have my friends desire too. I want to restore an image of my phone to each of the other desires, but at the same time, not have the google account info restored.
I tried do a clockworkmod backup and restore to each of the other phones, which worked, but I was thinking I could simply "clear data" of each app, to get my account details off the phone. Unfortunately this isn't the case and the only way is to do a factory reset. I'm using mildwild 4.3 and not prepared to change ROM as it's working fine.
Can anyone advise on the best way to get all the apps, settings and other "template" files to each of the new phones without the account info and without having to start from a factory reset with each phone?
The aim is to get all 3 phones set up the exact same way, but just with their own google accounts and no trace of other accounts. It'd also be good to have the template as a backup.
Any feedback appreciated

[Q] Deactivation of device administrator fails (Lotus Notes Traveler + HTC One X)

Hello all,
after receiving the recent update for my HTC One X (stock ROM, now Sense 5.0 and Android 4.2.2), the Notes Traveler app for my work e-mails is causing problems (it seems to lose account information regularly and notifies me of failed sync). Since it is about to be replaced soon anyway, I wanted to uninstall the app, which is not possible:
I tried to deactivate the device administrator for Lotus Notes in the system security settings. The checkbox remains checked after deactivation, although there was no error message.
After that, I tried to uninstall the app using the app management in system settings. However, the button for uninstalling is still deactivated.
When I go to device admins again and tap Lotus Notes in the list, it asks me if I want to activate it as administrator again. So here it seems as if it was removed from the admins, although the checkbox in the list is always checked.
The same happens when I start Notes Traveler while Lotus Notes is seemingly not an activated administrator. I can then re-enter my password and the sync works for a while (less than 1 day) before it loses the password again and re-entering won't fix the problem unless I try removing Lotus Notes from the device admins (which causes all Traveler data to be wiped).
So it seems that the removal of Lotus Notes from device administrators does not work properly. Although I am asked for reactivation when I start the app again, the administrator is still active somewhere in the system and prevents uninstallation of the app.
Did anyone have a similar problem with device administration? Can I get rid of Notes Traveler without wiping my phone or damaging anything on it?
I already asked HTC support but they only wrote that the system update often cannot be extracted completely and the only way to fix it was to wipe the phone. However, I never received any error message during or after the update and everything else is working perfectly well. Therefore I doubt that it is caused by a failed system update installation.
Hm, did nobody else have this problem so far? Or anything similar? No one with enough knowledge of the Android system who can tell me if there's any other way than the official to get rid of that thing?

Suspect the majority of users here have never used Lotus Notes or even know of it, and for that they're very lucky and should grateful
http://www.ihatelotusnotes.com
I installed LN Traveler on CM 9 and promptly removed it once I knew it wanted Device Admin permissions: A gross intrusion of privacy and control. Instead I bought and installed Touchdown by Nitro. I knew this won't help you out, but I thought your post required some acknowledgment.
Thanks for answering. I don't like Notes very much either. I already did a factory reset of my HOX to remove that thing, it was not as much work to restore everything as I thought. However, some settings (e.g. ringtones) were not restored by HTC Backup which was a little annoying but okay.
i am also having the same problem with my micromax canvas 2 pus a110q

Upgrading to M8, how to transfer?

Hopefully upgrading today to the New One M8 device. I have ATT One X+ now and going to Verizon for the New One. Just curious of how to successfully transfer all my apps and all their data to new device? I know Google will download all my apps once I co figure my new device but how about their data? Like my private photos saved in Vaulty app, my game progress in dead trigger 2, etc?
I don't know if titanium backup is the answer and if it will work as it's backing up on this device then trying to restore app data on HTC New One M8 device?
This One X+ is my first android phone so never done this before upgrading to another android device. Appreciate any help in simple terms for me.
In settings and backup I have the box checked that says backup app data to Google on WiFi connection if that makes a difference?
You should have asked this question after you got your new phone .
I have only one phone, but I also have a virtual android device running via BlueStacks. Both are connected to one google account. After I downloaded Asphalt 8 on Blue Stacks, it didn't restore my save games from my HTC (but even Asphalt has an in-build cloud store option). So I've created a backup of my save game using Helium/Carbon and restored it, but I think Titanium should work as well.
If using Helium/Carbon, you are can connect one phone to another using an internet connection. Then, you can choose on one phone "restore app data from other phone" option. While you simply relax, the whole thing is going on... And works!

I wanted to have all my ducks in order before I get my new phone. Worst case I basically saved storage on my device to my laptop so can manually do that for music, photos, etc.
Thing is the New One M8 device does not have root yet so can't even use titanium backup. Does this carbon app work without root?
Thing is I'm trading in my One X+ for my new device so I have to backup my phone to my laptop which I did.
What I'm worried about now though is game data for dead trigger 2. Have a lot of time and money in that game and hate to lose it all when installing on my new device.
Carbon does work without root, my HOX+ is unrooted. The only thing is, you need to connect your phone to your PC once. After that, you can plug it out and use Carbon. You will have to repeat it only if you reboot your device.
