i717 permabricked. Won't even boot to download mode. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Is there any hope? I was trying to install LiquidSmooth Jellybean 4.1.2 RC8. I did a backup of the stock ROM before doing so using CWM 6.0. But now it won't even go into download mode. I plug it in via USB as the screen won't even turn on and it keeps flashing that it's plugged in, then it's not, then it is, etc.
I had used the files from AndroidJinn without reading the reviews at the bottom.
How screwed am I?

How did you try to get into download mode? Power+volume down and then releasing the power button while still holding volume down?

I'm facing quite the hard brick. $1.60 for a jig won't kill me, now to buy it. But is there anything else I can try?

I would try to find out exactly what caused this before attempting to fix it. Has the recovery that you used been reliable and tested enough to ensure it didn't cause any troubles? I compiled twrp for this device and I can tell you that recovery is a pain to build correctly.

Yes it has. Haven't had issues yet. But it happened specifically with this ROM, and the page is full of brick warnings. Not even the samsung logo comes up. Booting to recovery or download doesn't work.

I hope you can work it out. With my own I have not had any major problems to troubleshoot. Mostly things that a battery pull or an odin flash could fix. Although I have had a couple times that I was unable to get into recovery and simply removing my otterbox and retrying did the trick. ( Buttons getting worn out on the otterbox cover? )

I just want to let you know, for the sake of your galaxy note, do NOT flash the 4.1.2 Liquidsmooth Jellybean RC8 ROM from the androidjinn site. It permabricks phones, down to the recovery, and even blocks download mode.

It's not the most correct thing to do (actually, not at all, it was your friend's fault entirely, also voiding the warranty), but your friend can tell them that the device began to heat while charging, he unpluged it and it died, sometimes it happens...
As for the JTAG you asked on the other post, it's a physical connector inside the cellphone used to write the flash memory, it involves opening the device, pinning some terminals and programming via PC, it's pretty common on embedded devices to load the program for the first time.
There is still a chance to get the phone back to its senses!
you will need 2 people to do this
read all 5 steps then only proceed!
1. Remove the battery.
2.Start odin in your pc.
3.connect the mobile to the pc using cable.
4.keep pressing the keys required to get in download mode. i.e. power+home+volume down key.
5.ask someone else to put the battery in your phone keeping the keys pressed!.
if every thing goes right Odin will detect the phone Flash it with a good rom you know which works! and never take out the cell from odin when its being flashed until odin says Success!

Won't work if the PIT wasn't completed therefore leaving the device void of a bootloader, but it's worth the try, you have nothing to lose...

[Q] Might have hard bricked my phone

So I was trying to root new Galaxy s2.. long story short, I think I hard bricked it.
The device won't power up; or at least the screen won't show anything.
I can't get to Download Mode.
Is there anyway I can save my new 400 dollar investment?
How are you trying to get into download mode ? Hold the volume down, home button and the power button at the same time. When you get the Samsung screen, release the power button but keep holding the volume down/home buttons until you get into download mode.
If you really can't get into download mode your options are:-
1) Get a jig. This would be your last chance to get into download mode before sending it off for repair.
2) Find someone near you who does JTAG repairs. This option will be cheaper than paying for Samsung to repair your phone.
3) Return the phone to Samsung. As you've tried to root the phone, there's a fair chance you'll end up paying for said repair as this voids your warranty. On the other hand you might be one of those people who get lucky and Samsung fixes your phone under warranty regardless. A roll of the dice essentially.
Edit - Remove your battery & leave it out for a minute or so before trying to get into download mode.
Or failing options 1 & 2 already suggested then perhaps option 2a..
Apply a current to the sim connectors under the battery and make sure it never evers boots again, Samsung won't know what's happened to it and will repair/replace FOC.
(I find an old laptop PSU minus connector plug usually applies enough current for this)
Hehehehe ;-) Damn that brought back memories Uridium. I used to do that with Sega Mega Drive cartridges. However, I'm not sure we should be suggesting same on here. Not exactly ethical and bordering on fraud tbh

Looking at JIGS on Ebay, I'll probably get one from there.
So how would I use that?
Plug it in to get to Download Mode then take it out and plug in USB connection to my PC?
I'm still unaware of which correct firmware to put it, so this is so scary :[

Haha I will try the JIG method first.
But thanks for the devious idea ;]
Yep. Look for "Samsung Galaxy S2 download mode jig" or something like that on eBay. Shouldn't be more than a few bucks. When you get it, make sure the phone is off, plug the jig in the usb port & if you're lucky the phone will boot into download mode. Yeah, once you're in download mode, remove the jig, plug a USB cable in/connect to your PC then flash your firmware of choice via Odin.
We can worry about which firmware to flash once you're able to get it to boot with a jig tho. Post back here when you get it & then we can work out which firmware to go with.

Thanks for your help! The JIG should arrive by Friday. Till then.. back to my iPhone 3G, yuck.
Hey I have an idea, why don't you tell us how you think you bricked your phone.
Because, for example, if you've flashed a bad Kernel then your phone may seem bricked (it has all the characteristics) but can be recovered by someone who knows what to do. Likewise, if you were flashing something with Odin and you had a sudden spasm attack and pulled the USB out, you've bricked your phone. Tell us what you did and we can give a proper reply.
EDIT: If the phone is only soft bricked and you can get into DL mode with a JIG, you go can it without one.

Well, first I was using odin to root it by changing the kernel. But I think I was using the wrong version and then I got "firmware is wrong. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again."
Then I tried to put back 2.3.4 and that's where I think went wrong. I unplugged the phone because it was just stuck with Odin on for over 10 minutes.
Then now I can't even turn it on.

If Odin hadn't finished its business and you unplugged your phone then yea, you've probably bricked it. Cases like these is why I never use Odin, its beta software which even the developers don't fully understand how it works. Even if through no fault of your own, Odin can fail, and that leaves you pretty well ****ed. Try the JIG, you may have unplugged it when it wasn't flashing something important, but yea, I'd start making up a really good excuse to get a new phone.

Well it might be possible to Unbrick your phone without Jig, but solution has not worked for 100% user, though it has worked for me(I'm not sure it was hard brick). So here are the steps:
1- Start Odin
2- Attach the USB cable to the PC (DO NOT ATTACH IT TO THE PHONE)
3- Press and hold "Volume up" and "home" buttons
4- Attach the USB cable to the phone while holding both buttons
5- The phone will enter in download mode
Just flash the stock kernel after that.
And don't forget to THANK me if it works

[Q] JIG not starting download mode (normal boot instead)

So i need to send in my phone for repairs because my battery gets drained like crazy and i tried everything to stop it. (dozen different roms/kernels completely "naked" without ANY apps and it still drains ~10% an hour).
so anyway, my JIG worked fine all the time (got me into download mode every time), but since i need to reset the binary counter i flashed the XWKG1 firmware and the old bootloader through odin and everything works fine, except my JIG does not bring me into download mode anymore. when i plug it in, the phone just boots normally. i can get into download mode with 3 button method but it just shows me that the counter is still on 1.
any suggestions?
searching for this matter is kinda hard, because "jig not working" brings up all kinds of threads about the jig not resetting due to newer bootloader, and "jig not starting download mode" doesnt bring the desired results either.
so any help would be much appreciated.

strange!!!
Home made jig or purchased one? Sometime any short circuite on the jig resisters???
if available try with another jig...
you can flash again old bootloader and try.

If the jig is working properly then you should get to dl mode with old bootloader. You can get info regarding how to install it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and here http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/23/...oader-on-samsung-galaxy-s2-to-enable-usb-jig/

2) try with new jig
3) try flashing old bootloader again
Everythig fail, flash ICS and use Triangle Away app.

Yeah I guess. Bootloader is not the problem, as it worked before. Plus, according to other threads, ICS bootloader works with jig, but it only force-boots to download, not flashing Odin counter. As stated, that doesn't even work.

Stuck on Samsung Screen
Hi guys please help me. My Samsung S3 is stuck on Samsung Screen. The phone talks to Odin3.
You flashed Omega on a Sprint phone? There's your problem, lol.

Samsung Galaxy A10 won't boot into recovery or download mode

I fear I may have bricked my phone while trying to flash a custom rom. I had TWRP installed. I used it to flash LineageOS and everything seemed to be going correctly, but then I rebooted the device and it after showing the initial splash screen it just turned off again. It only shows the splash screen now if I hold down Volume down and the Power button for 20 seconds. It doesn't boot into recovery mode or download mode and I don't understand why. I don't know if there's anything that could be done in a situation like this, but if anyone might be able to help I'd really appreciate it. The device is still in warranty, but when you turn it on it says that it's not running stock software so I don't know good of an idea it would be to try to get a replacement unit. I've done that before, successfully with another samsung phone I had about 7 years ago.

Seems it's completely bricked and will need to reflash in EDL mode

Usually through test points in the back of your device. If your able to get into recovery/main OS try adb reboot edl. If not you can able make or buy a deep flash cable that sets the device into EDL mode

I opened the device but there's no documentation on where the test points are. Will any EDL cable work? As I mentioned already, the device does not boot beyond the bootloader, no matter what.

Yep it's definitely in EDL. When you plug it in do you see Qcom HS-USB 9008 (or 9006) or just Qcom USB bulk or similar? If so then that's a good sign that you can recover, but you'll need a programmer that works with your device. Yes a deep flash cable should do the trick if not already in edl

Do you not see anything in device manager or hear a connection? Unless your on a different chipset because the PBL cannot be corrupt by software. You're welcome! If you need further help please do send me a PM and we can go from there

When I plug it in nothing happens at all. If I try to turn it on while it's plugged, I get the charging screen but that's it.

Hmm seems it can boot into the kernel. Do you know the specs of the device? If it's Qualcomm I can go have a look around and see what I can find to point you into the right direction

It's SoC is a proprietary Samsung chip. All Samsungs use proprietary chips afaik. The A10 uses the Exynos 7884.

I thought they would have implemented a special mode of operation if you got into a brick like that. If the device comes on with the charger then it's probably not fully bricked. I've seen other threads that have had the same issue so you may have to check them out

Really? where have you seen other people with this issue? I've looked on the A10's forums but I found nothing. Could you send me some links?

Try to look for other devices and search deeply good sir you may find what you need. I use Qualcomm devices because we have a special EDL mode and I have a programmer for all my devices to restore in the case of a hard brick like yours. I've been able to use custom tools to create a restore firmware like the Zone 2 (LG) and flash the device far enough to get it into download mode to flash the KDZ

You'll need to search with other devices or just in general. I seen posts about it being in some USB mode but Samsung probably don't have that implementation
Hello,
I am currently facing the same problem. Were you able to solve the problem?
