I have been looking to purchase the galaxy s 2 for some time now. I've read about alot of problems with the phone but I played with the at&t version and it is super fast, beautiful screen, perfect size and has a great camera. The biggest thing that's keeping me from purchasing it is the audio quality from the headphones. Is it as good as the Iphone 4 or Zune HD(which is my favorite music player) from your experience? Next, hows the battery life compared to the iphone 4 which has great battery life and the only android phone that matched it from my experience was the nexus one. If I do decide to purchase the galaxy s 2, should I get the international version or the at&t version as Im getting them both off-contract. One more question, what kind of 3g speeds are you guys seeing in NYC with the international version and at&t version? Thanks
Now is not the time to get a Galaxy S II in my opinion. Wait for the Prime to come out and either decide on Prime or 4S

My brother just told me that he can get the at&t galaxy s 2 for only $430 so I'll just buy it and if I dont like it, I can sell it for 450-500. I'm really hyped for the prime but I dont know when they are gonna release it and I want to get a new phone over my iphone 4. I dont want the 4S as Im kind of bored by IOS and it was barely an upgrade over the Iphone 4 and I was disappointed, but IOS 5 looks nice.

I recommend you to wait mate, there are some problems with galaxy s2 that still has not been corrected (im running 2.3.4 because i havent got an update few weeks ago greater than that on kies).
The biggest problem with this phone is the retarded overheating, it overheats ALOT when recording at 1080p and playing a decent ammount of games, (i experience overheating issues mostly in 3D games like asphalt 5, Motor Academy, dungeons defenders and more. The overheating issue is a huge downside mainly because it cannot let you enjoy your game without feeling that boiling effect on your fingers and the fact that i worry most of the times for it to not melt the circuitry board inside, like it has happened before with other people (ive only read 1 guy having this problem so far).
But there are also other problems, the oled screen still blurrs, its faster than an lcd but blurr is still there, viewing angles shifts hue to a bit of blue, if u put solid colors like pure gray on whole screen, you will notice the color displays with a different contrast on different parts of screen, the camera displays a pink circle on the screen when in medium lighting conditions viewing white walls or other objects that occupies the whole screen.
Speaker quality is average, there might be more but i cant remember them right now.
This is the best phone i know right now but i recommend you to wait for a better one, hopefully without these problems, if u cant wait and rly like oled then this might be the best one so far.

WHAT? Dude if you have all those problems then you should return your device and get a replacement because i got none of them. This phone is seriously phone of the year and this is my first samsung device. If sammy keeps this up then i am in for good. And about screen getting real hot... I got that problem in the first weeks but then after an update the problem went away. Using lates villainrom now. But like every other dual-core smartphones the phone gets hot when you use it for a long time... Again this happens to every dual-core smartphones as the cpu uses alot of power. And to the op, I seriously recommend you to get this device, unless you're thinking about getting the prime then you should wait a few more weeks. But i dont think that the prime will be much better then SGS2 except better screen.

In the sense that it is not overheating, it is simply expending the amount of heat proportionate to the amount of work being done. it's like when you play crisis 2 on your computer, your computer gets really hot right? Well an average computer per say, not a prepped, or modded one.
So like the computer, the sgs 2 is bound to heat up since you are forcing it to perform at such high levels, meaning big 3d games, 1080p, etc. To summarize, with great power comes great heat.
Which brings me to another speculation, how bad will the prime or iphone4s heat up? if the Mali does this bad, I'm wondering how the sgx543 will do since it has atleast twice the performance.
Anyways onto your own matter, I'd rather wait than get a half year old device despite the enormous pros.
The SGS2 is kinda cheap now, and it will be even cheaper when the Prime will be out. This phone has good specs, it won't grow old that fast, so i wouldn't go mental for whatever comes next. Anyway, i'd wait a little if i were you

as for whoever told me that i should change the phone because someone else got none of those issues, i had changed it 2 times and all 3 i had, had the exact same problems, you probably dont get overheating because you either dont use it for the same apps or games as i do or u have possibly underclocked it or have some sort of battery saving application, or maybe even an unnoficiall firmware, these problems are part of all s2 phones it has been checked plenty of times by plenty of experienced people in this forum, they are nothing new.
PS: i doubt iphone will have such issues, maybe their battery will explode again or maybe it will loose signal if holded with left hand, but i doubt itll have overheating issues, there are some dual cores out there and none have such issue as sgs2 has, it has nothing to do with it beying stressed to much, its either a hardware building fault or a software issue.
The S2 is pure gold still when Prime is out, the phone got no problem at all IF and only IF you follow the root instructions/rom installation instructions step by step, if you forget something, you probably end up with problems. (most forgotten is to install kies drivers or to not shut down kies while flashing with odin).
Prime is gonna be the top phone, so it can be worth wait.. but sure the S2 (2nd best phone by then) will cost about 200 less.
I bought the SC2 right after the iPhone 4s was announced, not regreting, and don't think the the prime will be much better, I probably buy the s3 when it comes out next year.

Buddy just go for the phone that YOU want...Galaxy S2 is for me a top top phone..dual core gorgeous screen and memory is great....regarding audio i cant find any faults with it..you have different equalizer settings and you can adjust it to your liking....
regarding the overheating issues i have occured them as well when i first got my phone....since ihave rooted it though and have got my custom rom and kernel that i am using that has gone away now and im experiencing great battery life....like the post above the next handset for me will be the s3....
iphone 4s if the screen was a tad bigger i would of gone for that....but as i said if you cant wait for the prime then s2 is the one for you buddy

Well overheating for me means it is expending so much heat whilst doing so little. Meaning it is heating up even though it is on standby or screen off.
Melting the circuit board I think is natural if you expect it to handle so much. Because when the GPU or processor demands so much power/electricity in proportional to the process, and the process is a big one, then of course it will need a lot of power. And where does the power go? Well the wasted becomes heat. And personally i don't think you can compare other past dual cores as none are nearly as good in architecture as the exynos or in fact perform as close, side from the A5.
And yes I do experience great heat when I play games like dead space, dungeon defenders, and so on. But i expect it since the phone is trying its utmost best to perform. Meaning it is trying its best to play at 60fps or more when it isn't needed. Now a solution maybe to cap the GPU and CPU to only produce frames at say 24fps or so. That may fix "overheating".
Note however that above is sincerely speculation as i have no idea how the SoC operates.
My personal experience after 4 weeks with the S2:
It´s great as a fast multimedia device (great images from Camera, HD Video recording and playback of movies and films, internet browsing), but if you plan to use it MUCH as a phone stay away... speaker quality is quite poor, you may experience trouble with echoes due to failing noise redcution, volume with headset is very low.
Other MAJOR downsides i found, compared to other droid phones:
Wlan signal strength very poor, around 20% lower signal rates that LG Optimus. Also 3G signal strenth is poorer than LG. Really disappointing.
AMOLED display is overrated, colors of images are distorted and very unnatural (reds, blues) compared to standard LCD (i´m a photographer so i know how my images should look).
Ob btw,if you plan to use the S2 as a GPS car navigation device forget it, because the battery will be charged at a max rate of 650 mAH even if your car charger can deliver more - at least with Navigon your battery will drop even when charging! What a joke!
Long story short: don´t buy unless you can get it for under 200 USD.
Nexus Prime. Simple.
Or Nokia WP7 if you can wait.

- outdoor hobby requirements, you'll never be afraid of doing an army assault course knee deep in mud with it in your pocket.
My sgs2 , while good, isn't great at meeting the above points.

Yea I read somewhere it can be used as a baseball bat too. I wish my gs2 could do that . I loose count the amount of times I've left mine at home while out shopping and I've spotted some chavs.

I think you got your units mixed up. The reports are that it's heating up to just over 100 F.
edit: I just noticed that you caught your error.
ya the original news report i heard had it mixed up, but still thats pretty hot, i wouldnt want to be holding that, or accidentally fall asleep when a game is running, might cause some damage
this is the beginnings of a huge issue down the road for new ipads. watch what i tell you. those devices won't last long St all constantly running at those high temps. people will get sick of their device shutting down on them and message popping up saying device needs to cool down. one thing about apple fans, they love to complain when there is an issue and they will let it be known. so expect this to continue to get major tech press coverage as time goes on. this could eventually become a fire hazard if its left on plugged in. device runs so hot and causes a fire or shortcircuit the wall adapter, which could cause a fire. everyday at those temps and new Ipad chips won't last longer than a few months before burning out or burning some other component up. some even reported half of the glass getting very hot to the touch. one reason could be because apple is pumping 2x the power into display to keep it running. it uses a very un-efficient way of back lighting the display. I saw it in a tech article where they broke down new Ipad display saying its good but far from perfect. Samsung has to jump through hoops to make that tricky display work.
Well, I exchanged my iPad 2 for the kids at local BB. Upgraded to iPad 3.
Few days of use and my little girl complained to me that the it actually burnt her. I guess she had it laying on her lap.
I didn't have a cover on it. I took the piece of crap back and demanded a refund. They have the old iPad 2 back now.

35°C ? Not much .. my prime is much hotter when I'm playing for 2hours withs super ips mode. Same this for sgs - 50°C or hotter. 35°C is not so much.
Wait a minute. A hundred degrees F? So a whole degree and a half higher than normal body temperature.
Is this a problem in devices the size of tablets? I'm new to tablets, but that's nothing compared with the old 939 CPU in my tower.

Ya, it can be uncomfortable for some. My prime runs nice and cool reguardless what games im playing.
I gladly take a reduced screen resolution for increased performance, not to mention the increased heat is going to cause damage to the battery.
And there are some reviews where if you have it in direct sunlight and start something intense the increased heat from just being outside can cause it to shut down!
You might not think one or two degrees makes a difference but consider if you have a body temp of 100F you likely feel really sick. If your body temp hits 116 like these ipads are getting, you are likely dead.
Anyways, i hope you all had a good smile at this, too much negitivity towards the prime on this forum hopefully this lightened the mood a little
100 degree must mean Celsius as most cpu run between 50 to 80c. 100c would be out of control lol. If it is burning her lap its more than 100f. Although, if the case is running 100f without proper cooling the cpu would run MUCH MUCH higher.

Ya, the CPU is likely much higher. The reports I have seen are saying the case itself is reaching 116 degrees F (specifically after running Infinity Blade for 45 minutes). Also, under normal usage the iPad 3 runs 10 degrees hotter than the iPad 2.
I can totally see this blowing up in apple's face (I can only hope). This may result in a recall depending on how it plays out. Because it's not just the heat thing, they are saying it is drawing so much juice while playing a game for example that the battery won't even charge when plugged in. And as others have mentioned, heat and electronics don't mix well.
I don't want to start Apple bashing, but the list of problems with the 'New' iPad put the TP problems into perspective.

I hope the problem with the heat is a result of the GPU. That put all of these people to the rest who complain about Tegra 3's performance. It's easy to build a big chip with such a performance. But it's complicated to control the heat and power consumption.

it will. Asus and prime was ever as popular as apple. so our issues were only major to us. it isn't like our issues get national t.v. press coverage. anything apple does is under a microscope. so when the mess up, they do it big. plus apple complainers are some of the loudest voices heard. this will soon enough generate t.v. coverage. I didn't even hear about the battery not charging up issue. SMH. so the reality behind new Ipad launch is really starting to show. apple will have it worse because they sell in such large numbers. meaning huge amounts of people likely to have this issue. I smell another lawsuit coming apples way. they deserve it since they always want to patent troll on smaller companies.

I heard a spokesman for Asus say that there was less than 1% of Primes that had reported problems. That's not to say that only 1% actually HAVE problems (my GPS doesn't work well enough for navigation, but I don't care because I never intended to use it for that) but less than 1% of Prime customers are dissatisfied with their devices. That seems about right to me, given that almost all of the complaints that I see in these forums seem to be from 1-2 people who got bad Primes.
To put that into perspective, I read a quote from an Apple spokesperson who said that "87% of (new) iPad customers are reporting no problems." That means that 13% are reporting problems. That is ridiculous.

I'm on the hunt for a nexus 10 at a local staples - the majority of posts I see in here are people *****ing about performance issues and light bleed or other build quality problems. Meanwhile I do see posts about people absolutely in love with the N10 (rightfully so)
The light bleed thread seems like a nightmare - although people who RMA a device 6 times should really get a life and move on to a different product. Is the light bleed really a major issue or should I go ahead and buy one?
Sorry for the junk thread but I didn't see very many threads in here where people are actually giving credit to the N10 and singing praises. hard to guage the "fringe" vs "the average person's experience"
Alrighty...my Nexus 10 is fantastic. Staples followed through on their promised two-day delivery, I have no light bleed, and the thing hasn't crashed or rebooted once. I immediately installed Paranoid Android on the thing, didn't even once boot the stock JB it came with. Couldn't be happier.
I love mine, i have not had any issues. My battery life is really great, works awesome and i am on stock, with multiple users running.
I love my Nexus. I had a Xoom WIFI (that is now the girlfriend's) that I loved and my Nexus blows it out of the water. I have Task650 and KToonsez's AOKP on there with KToonsez's KT Manta kernel and it's a beast. Combined with ES File Explorer, Netflix and Hulu the tablet is the ultimate portable media device as well as great for browsing and e-reading.
Love it. I have a little light bleed and it doesn't bother me at all. I don't get why it matters I guess.

I really like mine (32gb, stock rom). The screen is amazing, especially with pages that have good text renderers. The tablet also has state-of-the-art performance in day-to-day use. No light bleed at all in mine. Native resolution apps are scarce on the ground, which is a bit of an issue but one that should be resolved shortly (I hope) as Android tablets seem primed to explode in popularity.
One annoying problem I've run into is Chrome's instability. Chrome has crashed at least once per day since I got it. When I say "crash", I mean full system lock-up, requiring a hard reboot. I've resorted to using Dolphin and Firefox with no problems. Google needs to fix tablet Chrome, though.
I'm not too impressed with the (inevitable) thermal throttling that basically makes the advertised 1.7GHz dual-core speed, a lie :/ But, to be fair, most of what I do on the N10 works fine and performs just fine
But still... essentially not being able to run a demanding game for too long isn't impressive...

I've used Chrome for a while now on my tablet, with 0 crashes or system lockups, but have heard many stories of people mentioning Chrome crashing and etc. Not really too sure what I might be doing different though...
Best tablet I've ever used. Screen quality is astounding, everything about it as as smooth as butter, web browsing with Ocean works like a dream, gaming on it is great, no lightbleed, and it's been stable as a rock. I literally couldn't be any happier with this tablet.
I have to admit I"m only on day 2 of ownership so that may skew some things, but I absolutely adore mine. Its fast, the screen is amazing, and the build quality is quite good. Its easily the best tablet I've ever owned in every single category except battery life, and even there its not bad at all.
Do I have light bleed? Yes. However, I've gone through absolute hell with warranty repairs trying to get my previous HP Touchpad's light bleed fixed which eventually resulted in them cracking the screen and my successfully suing them in small claims court (For the crack which they claimed was my fault and warranty voiding, not the light bleed). Following that, I went through four Transformer Infinities, of which three had light bleed. Its just a defect common in IPS/PLS displays, through the three tablets I've owned (all of different manufactures) I've learned its completely unrealistic to expect a perfect one. If its not an absolutely horrible amount, live with it. If you cant, get an iPad or realize that tablet computers are NOT for you.
Do I have the creaking back plastic? Yes. Every tablet made of plastic is going to have some problems. The speakers on the touchpad are notorious for cracking spontaneously. The Note 10.1 is so thin you can actually see it flex. With devices this big made of plastic, its unrealistic to not expect some sort of cheap feel. The Nexus 10 has it pretty good compared to some of the other tablets, so live with it if you can. If you cant, get a metal tablet or realize that tablet computers are NOT for you.
Do I have the thermal throttling? I dont know yet. But realize you're running a 1.7Ghz processor in something slightly thicker than a ball point pen. Look in ANY desktop or laptop computer of equivalent speed (yes, I know x86 and ARM are not directly comparable, but go with it for this) and you'll find a massive heatsink and fan. The Nexus 10 does not have a fan because nobody would buy a tablet with such, and the heatsink is quite thin to keep the dimensions down. You still have one of the fastest tablets on the market. Think of the 1.7Ghz not as a top sustainable speed, but like the "Turboboost" mode on modern Intel i3/5/7 CPUs where it'll ramp up to that speed to complete a task as quickly as possible and then dial back to something more easily sustainable. I'll admit that Google should add something to Android where if it knows a game is running it limits its top speed to prevent this very throttling, but that's on Android and not the device itself. Throttle the CPU back yourself, live with it, or realize that tablet computers are NOT for you.
TL;DR: This is a good tablet computer. Like all tablet computers, or like anything really, you shouldn't have unrealistic expectations.
Its very good. I think Google still has a ways to go though in the tablet world but its getting much better. Still the best android 10 inch out there.
I absolutely love mine. It is lightning fast, runs more games than my Infinity, the screen is incredible and the tablet has given me zero trouble. The battery life/slow charging is only a small ding for me.
Having had mine since release, I still love it. Easily better than my iPad 3 was, and massively better than any other android tablet. So powerful. The screen is so sick. The front speakers.
I agree with those saying chrome is a pos, the aosp browser is so much better! Weird as chrome works well on my n4. There is a tiny bit of "light bleed" in the bottom right cover, but as others have said this is a fundamental characteristic of backlit screens. My TV has much worse light bleed than my tablet!
I've been using mine for 2 weeks now, this is my first and only tablet.
I love the feel and form factor of the 10. It's lightweight and easy to use with one hand or two, but it still feels sturdy to me. I love that I can pack it around the house with me, or lay down in bed and prop it up in my arms and comfortably watch some YouTube or TV shows on Hulu. The overall mobility is great, and I especially look forward to traveling with it.
I'm happy with the media content. I've been with Android since day 1, so I didn't want to leave behind all the apps and content I've purchased up to now. From what I can tell I won't be missing out on any of my core apps, magazines, movies, etc... I will concede that right now many developers seem to just be blowing up their apps to fit the 10, instead of optimizing the app to fit. I'm hopeful this will improve in 2013.
Performance wise it's been a mixed bag for me. I'm running stock and unrooted with Nova Launcher. 95% of the time navigation and usage is buttery smooth, but it's not completely perfect. I have had issues with Chrome freezing up and causing the tablet to restart, so I'm using dolphin. I've had just a few other times when it's rebooted randomly. Gaming on the 10 is overall a superb experience, however I do have issues with lag and stutter in NFS Most Wanted and on rare occasions in Sword & Sorcery. I am sort of bugged that the gaming experience is superior on an Ipad, but I couldn't bring myself to buy one just for that. All of these things are annoyances at worst - not deal breakers for me. It's embarrassing though to have the system I love have issues like these right out of the box. Again, this is my first tablet so I'm unaware of what the experience is like on other tablets and OS'es and if this is a common thing or not. The positives are that I can use this thing for 3 days and have 6 hours of screen time without having to charge it. I like that.
The screen is fantastic! Prior to receiving my tablet I'd been lurking in the "Damnit, my Nexus has light bleed" thread and had myself half scared to death that that light bleed would ruin my experience with the 10. I do have pretty severe yellow bleed in my corners, but surprisingly it doesn't really ever become noticeable in my day to day use. It bugs me that it's still there and I have requested a replacement on the basis that I expect a near mint copy if I'm paying $400 for it, but I think you can get by most of the time without ever noticing that it's an issue. YMMV. If my next one is bad I might even keep mine because I don't think I have any other issues with it.
My overall experience is very positive. I do wish that the screen bleed issues weren't there and that Samsung actually would have taken the time to calibrate the color and gamma on the panel as well. I'm a perfectionist in my work, so it dumbfounds me to thing that 2 companies like Samsung and Google could release a flawed product, but this seems to be the best choice available to me so I've taken it. My nexus is basically a $400 bedside toy right now, but I love it! Eventually I will transition to getting a bluetooth keyboard and purchase one of the office suite products and use it for true productivity purposes.
I like the device but I hate the state that it's in right now. I can't believe they released this to the public with the not only the software issues that are well known, but the usb charging to top it off.
This thing should still be in final beta stages, not out in the public for nearly 2 months already.
Well my nexus legacy will continue - just ordered the 16gb on google play (what are the chances it becomes in stock as I make this thread heh)....
It will be a battle between this and the acer w510 tablet I picked up (x86 windows 8 tablet). Definitely need to get a bluetooth keyboard case ordered though.
I really liked it when it worked. I did have the hard freezes which required reboots. they were always caused by Chrome. When I unistalled Chrome and put in the AOSP Browser it was much better. The one thing I couldn't get over was the light bleed on all 6. For the money I spent on it, I couldn't justify just having to deal with it.
Very happy with mine and even with the couple things that irk me, I am glad I got it! Great title for this thread, because I wondered the same thing.

I love mine and have had no reboots or freezes, but I do get some lag during hard gaming. Fingers crossed that can be fixed with updates or a new trinity/other kernel.
I'm concerned that because the nexus 9 uses almost the same nvidia chipset as the nvidia shield tablet, that the nexus 9 will have overheating problems. The nvidia shield got so hot that it basically cracked the case. Please let me know what your experiences are.

From playing with mine for around an hour, it does get pretty warm but not hot enough to cause concern for me. I have seen tablets get much hotter in the past.
Subjectively, the back of mine feels about as hot as my Shield Tablet (departed). But the side/frame is aluminum, unlike the Shield which was plastic. So I'm not concerned.
Mine got a little warm but nothing hot

Mine definitely gets warm on the top half (holding in portrait) but I wouldn't say hot. Nothing unreasonable...my LG G3 gets warmer/hot.
I think the overheating problems mainly occur when playing graphic intensive games. The GPU (not the CPU) is probably the reason why it gets so warm. I wonder what would happen after a couple hours of playing Trine 2. Overheating probably won't happen under normal usage.
Anybody was able to compare how hot does it get compared to ipad? (especially ipad mini 2)

Compared to my Shield Tablet, it's not even close.
Mine has not gotten even warm...its been plugged in for 3 hours now...setup up apps, browsed web, played a few YouTube videos fired up a few games..candy crush, slots and what not...nothing graphic intensive. Its maybe a degree or two warmer on top vs the bottom...barely noticeable. My g2 will get really warm,even hot if its charging and the screen is on. Not the case here.

Maybe the battery temp is a better indication of what the internal temp is. The outside could be warm, but the inside could be much warmer. I'm not really concerned about cracked corners like the nvidia shield had with this device, but high internal temp could potentially damage the circuits.
On a side note, it has come to attention that if you press in the middle of the back of the device, there is a lot of flex in the casing. If there is flex when pressing on the back, then there must be a space behind it. Maybe that space was intended to prevent the back of the device from feeling warm. So, it could definitely feel much cooler in the back than it really is inside.
Mine gets randomly hot. Like not even when under heavy load. I was browing the web the other day and it got to 43 C
The area near the rear camera gets warm, however I remember the Nexus 7 getting a lot warmer. I think you can probably run a Google search and find someone concerned about the heat put out by any tablet on the market (iPads included).
It's not something I'm concerned about because these chips are built to withstand a lot of heat and I suspect with future updates they may some refinement with how it runs and certainly when custom kernels start appearing it would be something we'll have a little more control over with having the ability to (hopefully) undervolt and adjust the CPU frequencies.

Just received mine today, when it downloaded and installed the OS update it got really hot, not unlike my Nexus 4 when it's being taxed. Battery drained a lot during that time as well.
I played asphalt8, simple rockets and plague inc for about an hour each, all games that used to set my optimus g on fire, and destroys my g2 battery. I can honestly say my battery took a noticeable hit, but it only got slightly warm. My optimus g used to get too hot to hold and then turn off. My (white 32gb ordered oct 17 delivered this morning) nexus 9 does not get hot, maybe warm like holding someone's hand. I know, this is 100% scientific, but all my other devices have gotten much hotter than what I tried to get this to. /2¢
Hey all, I have just picked up one of these babies directly from Dell during their Pre-Black Friday sale for an amazing price of $293. Okay, not just, but it is brand new and incredibly, it is the 32 gig model. I have been searching around to see if there have been any negative, or positive, comments, regarding this tablet. Yeah I know it's a little late to be doing that, now that I have bought it. However, in my defense I did search the reviews that came out in January when the DV8 7000 first came out before I pulled the trigger. All the reviews back then were for the 16 gig model and by and large everybody seemed to be favorably impressed. Although they did think it was a little spendy at the time. It was going for $399 then. So I figured I couldn't go too far wrong if I spent just a tad less than that for 32 gig.
What I would like to know is, aside from some of the ergonomic issues, which I believe I can accommodate, how satisfied, or not, are you with this tablet? What are your nits and pics? I have been searching for any forums dedicated to this tablet and have been unable to find any. The Dell support forums have a few dissatisfied customers but really, not all that many. But then maybe there hasn't been all that many of these sold. Anyway, I haven't seen too much out there from end users regarding this tablet so I just wanted to get this out and maybe get a conversation going. So lets hear what you all have to say. Also, is there anybody out there that has snagged the 32 gig model?

I am overall pleased with my new (to me) Venue 7840. I got it yesterday and I also wanted something thin and with a good screen. I did a lot of reading and youtube watching for this model, in comparison with the Galaxy tab S2, and decided to buy one of these, as it stands out from the crowd with its very industrial design and almost lack of side and top bezels.
Ergonomically speaking, it isn't the best out there, but you get used to holding it quickly enough to not be bothersome.
I think the main reason why I picked this up will also be my biggest gripe about it. The screen is amazing for media consumption, but not very gentle on my eyes for web browsing. The high resolution not only forces me to squint a lot more, but it also takes a toll on the processor, as I get random flashes of the background when I pull down the notification drawers and hangs while trying to download pdfs from the web using Chrome.
Other than that, I really must point out that the wireless reception is just terrible. It doesn't help that I have a very slow connection to begin with, but it seems that the tablet is struggling very hard when it comes to youtube streaming content, for example, or downloads. It gets worse if your hold the tablet by the left side, as the signal drops and is lost randomly. You soon learn to use 2 fingers to hold it by the edges.
Being so thin, it really doesn't inspire confidence. I mean, sure, it's aluminium, but still, I have to be very careful of where I put it, cause it sure scratches easily. Also, it's hard to pick it up, with its flat back.
That's why I also got the folio case, which is just your normal iPad-inspired case, but with a bare back, probably for the cameras and heat dissipation, and it's atrocious. The case is thicker than the tablet, obviously, and its top edge makes it hard to swipe down and open the notification bar. It is also kinda flimsy, the plastic bit where the hole for the usb port is cut has cracked already, you can't fit L-plug headphones into the jack and there is no wake function (meaning that the screen doesn't turn on/off when using the cover).
The sound is amazingly good, and I don't understand why Dell is using the MaxxAudio app as a toggle feature, since I don't believe anyone will want to use it without this enabled.
Battery life is good, I've been downloading updates and pdfs and watching documentaries over wifi and playing Angry Birds 2 since this morning and it went from 100% to 47%. That's 6 hours of usage.
