Question Dual frequency GNSS - Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

Hi, browsing through GPS test database xls, I'm seeing that all S22/S22+/S22Ultra are capable of getting L1/L5 signals - but only if it's Exynos, not Snapdragon. Is that really like that, that Samsung only provides dual frequency GNSS with their chip, and screw things with Broadcomm? Ie. I have to be in Europe to buy a DF-capable S22?
I used to work in the GNSS industry and would love to collect and play with all the DF capabilities, plus carrier phase measurements ofc to do some RTK stuff and see how DF compares to SF.
Thanks!

In this database the S22+ SD (SM-S906U1) have E5a and L5 support.
Only both S22 variants (SM-S901x) have no dual frequency support.

Ah, sorry, I looked at it wrong, confused from all the combinations and codenames Anyway, even for S22+/Ultra, carrier phase is again only with Exynos, not Snapdragon
(Yes, I'd like to do some RTK fun stuff ).
Nevermind, I'll figure it out somehow. Thanks.

I see, DF does not directly mean more accuracy, but also really confusing. E.g. the Exy S22 does not have dual frequency, but carrier phase. Does this make sense? Also that S.LSI,K401 is mentioned insted of Broadcom.
I can also report that beside the good accuracy, the GNSS of the S22u Exy gets more issues when being close to subjects.
Whatever, if you figure out some more details, let the forum know.

I try to connect but the dual Frequency GNSS is not available in Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus.
If I am wrong please tell me? Kohl's Feedback

How are you trying to check this and what is the output?

I am looking at buying the following phone which is released on 31 October pre-sale price is around £132 or $209 goes up in price a fair bit after this date so I dont have long.

Any thoughts are most welcome.

Hi, I was monitoring this phone too because I believe this is the best bang for the bucks at the moment. No other phone on the market, at this price, offers you the LTE, fingerprint scanner for improved security and, last but not least, NFC capability.
If you, like me, tend to buy a product that has to last for a couple of years at least, well this phone seems to be perfect but:
- don't be in rush, since chinaphones normally sport lots of bugs, at least at the beginning
- we need to be sure people here will support it
- its radio capability is the best ever seen around for a while (in fact, it has the excellend 3g coverage on the 900 mhz band and EVEN the 800 mhz band for LTE/4g) but we have yet to see if these data are confirmed. More, its LTE is class 4, which means it is able of speeds up to 100 mbps while class 6 LTE phones are able to reach 150 mbps and more
The battery seems good indeed, but what about the gps? Road navigation is a must and I need it to be of maximum reliability, so we need to be sure it works.
Finally, if you decide to buy it, take it rooted cause in case you need some mods, especially on the gps side, it will be easier to perform.
Let us know if you go for it.

I think Elephone P6000 will be a good choice.
I just received my P3000s, I'll let you know in a week.
Don't buy this model
I own the 3gb/64 version with 4.4. After 2 weeks usages, i am not able to use the phone because of touchscreen issues.
Also the Sim1 slot is not fitting, you need to use sim2 slot.
Many people having the "ghost spot" issue.
See the official forums:
http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-3175-1-1.html#.VVmk5ruqpBc
If the problems with the touchscreen gets fixed, its a good phone.

I had the same problem.
Seems to be a manufacturing defect.
I had to bend it open with a small screw driver, then I managed to squeeze the SIM card in, and it works.
I'm having other problems, though - I have a new LG Watch Urbane smartwatch that constantly is loosing connection with the phone, and I suspect it is the Bluetooth (and wifi) radio on the phone that is unstable, because I often also loose connection with my home and office wifi.
Yes, it could have been a good phone for the price, but I'm already looking for a replacement
Maybe I'll try to find a Lollipop ROM for it to see if that solves anything.
while the price might be attractive for the specs, I really regret buying this phone.
The compass does not work and instead of fixing it, elephone did jack sh*t.
This issue is all over the forums and they just ignore it basically.
There are quite some bugs in the software, the battery life is poor and the build quality is not really good.
Where a good manufacturer like ZTE or Lenovo would fix issues, they do not.
It is just another manufacturer with which you can be lucky or unlucky.
I am staying away from the brand.
Check Lenovo, ZTE, Umi and Xiaomi for better engineered hardware and better software support.
And keep an eye on Android One when it comes to open source.

Snapdragon Vs Exynos - Not Looking So Hot For Exynos

Just wanted to share this very direct comparison I found on YouTube, directly comparing the Snapdragon 855 to the Exynos 9820 both running on S10 software. Really not looking great for Exynos in relative comparison to the Snapdragon at least for the S10. Let me know what you guys think about this comparison.

1. Will that translate to real world? We all know the grain of salt to take with benchmarks.
2. That's as good as it gets for SD, exynos will have custom kernels that could improve performance.
Not to mention the exynos could have an edge on battery. I'm not worried a bit.

I am also curious to know how this translates. The guy who created this benchmarks specifically states its supposed to translate to real world performance pretty well, but that's taking his word for it. We will see.

1. That depends on the user. Nobody really cares about a phone talking an extra second or two to open an app but if it's work related then your time wasted is money lost.
2. There are Snapdragon variants with unlocked bootloader's as well.
3. It doesn't. There are videos on YouTube you can search for.

Do you happen to know which regions/models specifically will have an unlocked bootloader? How much development do you think we will see for those few models?
Really want an exynos chispset for the unlock, but none of them support band 71 as far as I know. Currently faced with a huge dilemma

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that the Latin American and Hong Kong Snapdragon variants were unlocked from the start (previous models) but turns out they need to be unlocked manually, I assume though some type of vulnerability.
People are talking about cancelling preorders... Kneejerk reaction, or justified? Hard to say, but I do know Samsung set loose the very first update of many. Perhaps it'll shrink the performance delta.

Thinking serious kneejerk borderlining on freakout, but I'll know tomorrow night. Coming from a Pixel 3 so I have a good standard to judge performance from.

What we've been shown won't necessarily translate to "real" usage. The iPhone XS blows just about everything out of the water. Despite that, certain Android phones match it in silly speed tests.
The average consumer uses social media, YouTube, navigation, browser, and streams music/movies. Considering how well these run on budget phones I'm certain the 9820 will meet - if not exceed the expectations of buyers. Now... the area everyone wants to know about is efficiency. Will the SD or Exy take the crown this year?
Samsung has proven it knows what it's doing with exynos in years past. If there does happen to be an issue, I'm certain they can issue a fix for their in-house built processor.
Isn't this just the same old fundamental issue Anandtech much talked about with the Exynos S9 last year? At least its not looking as bad as last year's SOC.
Exynos fares better here (compared to other reviews).

I can't post it because I'm new but Look at this one "Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus vs iPhone XS Max - Speed Test!" by XEETECHCARE, how can such "slow" chip defeat the XS Max most of the time? If Exynos is so crappy why does it still beat it?
Still no videos about the SD version against the iPhone, in theory it should beat it even harder, but I started to think that the power settings they use on the Exynos are more conservative, at least I hope that's the case.

That is very impressive. Usually iphones are extremely hard to beat. It's good to see that Samsung is finally learning to remove bloatware and create much lighter software.

I think mostly the speed might come from UFS3.0. Soon someone will put snap vs exynos version next to each other, test it out and see which one is better so we will get a full picture. I don't play on my phone so day to day tasks and smoothness are the most important for me... Oh and battery life

The S10 phones have UFS 2.1, the first phone with UFS 3.0 will be the Galaxy Fold
That xs max vs s10 video, scrolling was pretty choppy on the right phone.
The exynos model is alot better for battery life than the s9. As mentioned above the exynos model will usually run smoother and have better battery life.
Just got my S10e G970F setup and updated to the new patch with Feb security. This thing flies. Repeat.. no performance issues in casual use and I'm not sure under what conditions there would be issues. I'm sure Pubg runs just fine. Feels a noticable step faster than my Pixel 3, which is exactly what I was expecting. Full day battery test tomorrow..
Benchmarks are nothing.
(And really liking this phone so far)

Note20 Hype

Who's already thinking about upgrading their phone, according to the current informations we have about the future Note? And which phone do you want to replace it with?
I'll start: I'm a big fan of the Note series since the first one (I don't use the Spen that much, but I find the overall design and specs to be quite nice, I prefer it over the S series). I usually skip one iteration because I find on one year they add features, and the next year they fix some of the previous year's mistakes. I even had the Note7... not for long So now, even it it still rocks, I'm thinking about replacing my Note9 with a Note20, for the cameras, the display, and all that stuff. Yes I'm totally into the consumer's profile, paying the full bill for a "minor" upgrade, but I enjoy it
What about you guys?
I'm hyped!
Note 10+ here, but I got the upgrade plan or whatever through Samsung with every intention of getting this year's model.
My biggest excitement? 120Hz screen and the new colors. Improved camera as well. I'm hopeful the battery life will remain similar despite the increase in refresh rate.
I'm actually trying to find out reasons to NOT get the Note 20 Ultra and I'm not finding many so far which is a good thing.

Big bump, but the array looks way better than the S20 Ultra.
Oh Im getting it for sure, the new copper color.
Will be keeping my note 10 plus though and still even use my copper note 9 once in awhile lol.
On an S8 and have been putting off a new phone because every time I get hyped I read about what the NEXT one is going to have, most recently skipped the S20 because the 120hz doesn't work on the highest resolution, but I think the Note 20 Ultra will finally be what I drop money on. As long as I don't hear rumors of the S21 folding my laundry...
Sent from my SM-G950U using XDA Labs
I really want to get this phone. But I gotta say I'm a little disappointed with the news being reported today that Samsung is sticking with the Exynos 990 (note the rumored Exynos 992) again for international models, while the US, Japan, China, etc get the Snapdragon 865+. There was already about a 20% difference in power between the Exynos 990 and the regular Snapdragon 865 with the S20 models, now that gap will likely be larger.
Don't get me wrong, I think I will still get the Note 20 Ultra as I'm a huge fan of the Note series and I don't think I can wait another year to upgrade from my Note 8. I just wish I wasn't going to get an inferior processor for the same high price as others are paying for the Snapdragon variant.
I'd be interested to hear what others here think about this.

Likely to keep happening as people push for better cameras.
I use a case, so it won't bother me much at all.
I also hope there will be some sort of pre-purchase offer, for example a refund if you send your old device back maybe, like they did for the Note9.

the ONLY reason whoould be that Samsung will again charge us the same money for Exynos chipset eventhough South Korea, China, US and Canada will get Snapdragon 865+ which would be with 30% more powerful and more power efficient.
This means approx. 3hrs SoT more for the Snapdragon 865+ ..
And Samsung it makes it even more difficult if we will buy Snapdragon 865+ note 20 Ultra from US or somewhere else, because in EU they are not supporting warranty for the Snapdragon devices..and they neither do service where customer pays money because they don;t have the spare parts..which is awful..

I feel the same. But I'm also quite conflicted on this for another reason.
Snapdragon phones are locked down, usually they can’t be rooted, and users can’t flash custom recoveries/ROMs.
There are of course exceptions to this but the Exynos variants are definitely better for development purposes.
Now for the first 2 years that probably won't bother me as the stock software would be fine. But once Samsung no longer provides OS updates it's really nice to be able to run custom ROMs.
If only we could get an Exynos device with comparable performance to Snapdragon.

Exynos 992 on 6nm or 5nm with arm x78 architecture is the best soution as of now for Note 20 Utra
If Samsung does a really strong trade in offer (I have a Note 9) to get the price reasonable, and ideally a throw in offer like the new ear buds, I'm in. Multiple Note owner (had the Note 4, 7 and 9) and really looking forward to a camera with a real zoom and better battery life. Looks like a winner!

I read somewhere the 3 colors for the Ultra will be that new copper color, then black and white.
One with Exynos 990 & the other one with SD865+, Samsung will STILL find them to be equally performing..
And a lot will believe it too.
I went from a Note 10+ to a Oppo Find X2 Pro instead of waiting for the Note 20 series, simply for the fact that every leak was pointing to European users being stuck with a Exynos 990 & I don't regret my decision at all, Samsung themselves are so blind they that continue to argue that the Exynos 990 is on the same level as the Snapdragon 865/+, it's ridiculous and from a consumer point of view, unacceptable, we're paying the same premium price but for a worse equipped device.
Many argue that it's only noticeable in benchmarks or on paper etc. But it isn't, it affects camera performance, camera quality, gaming performance, thermal performance, app fluidity, all the important parts of a smartphone experience, Snapdragon is far far ahead.
Sorry for the rant but it's just frustrating, hopefully one day Samsung will listen, in the meantime I'll enjoy my Snapdragon equipped Oppo :good:

Microsoft Duo benchmark appears.

Surface Duo beats most foldables powered by the Snapdragon 855, including Samsung’s original Galaxy Fold that scored 2,663 points in the multi-core tests, or the Galaxy Z Flip powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus that scored 2,685 points. It also beats last year’s Galaxy Note 10+ 5G or the Exynos version of the new Galaxy Note 20 Ultra that scored 2,659 points.
Source
Beside this results that proving great optimizations I have to say my thoughts.
I hear almost everywhere that a Hardware is outdated in Duo.
But do you ever used Pixel 4XL? You know how is running everything., better than any device with 865.
Now something more about hardware. There is 2+ build in chipsets from Microsoft beside 855 processor. One is responsible for security, one is for Battery management, another one for Touch/Input/pen processing. Your 855 sitting and doing NOTHING. All power from 855 will go to you. just You. Because all other heavy tasks running in background processing will be handled from other chipset.
This is Pixel style job done...Pixel 4 have also one custom chipset from google which is doing separate from 855 security job handling.
If Duo will be optimized as Pixel and I can see now on a bench result.. is going to be very, very interesting device to use it

Is the version with Exynos recommendable?

Hi People, I am thinking of buying an S21 as I am getting tired of such large smartphones.
In my country you can only officially get the version with Exynos with some Galaxy Buds + as a gift, I wanted to know if it is worth buying or if I have to get the one with Snapdragon because it works better.
My biggest question is regarding the Bluetooth signal, Wi-Fi and mobile data, I know that in the S20 the coverage was bad, as was the battery.
Thanks to those who respond to me.
Particularly for the S21 series, I would go with the Exynos version over the Snapdragon version primarily because the SD888 in the latter gets very hot as per web reports.
Performance wise they are on par with each other if not better.

I am not getting heat on my SM-G9910 especially after the last big update. With Snapdragons, mobile communication is usually more stable, but I have not seen any tests anywhere.
